After your NEET-MDS 2026 result: what to do next
Based on NBEMS’s and MCC’s own 2026 documents (listed under Sources). Check the official websites before you pay or lock anything. FindMyBranch is not part of MCC or NBEMS.
Once the result is out, next comes counselling: the process that turns your rank into an MDS seat. A few of its rules cost real money if you miss them, so here is a calm plan, one step at a time.

Check my MDS options1. Check your result and save your scorecard
- NBEMS declared the NEET-MDS 2026 result on 2 June 2026, on natboard.edu.in.
- Your NEET-MDS rank is your place among everyone who took the exam. In 2026 NBEMS gives only this overall rank; there is no separate All India 50% quota rank. A category rank (OBC, SC, ST, EWS) is used only for All India Quota counselling.
- Scorecards could be downloaded from 10 June 2026, and only for six months. Download yours now and keep two copies. You will need it in counselling.
- To qualify you needed 308 marks out of 960 (General and EWS), 289 (General PwBD) or 271 (SC, ST and OBC, including their PwBD). Below the cut-off, NBEMS gives no rank.
- If NBEMS used your BDS aggregate percentage to break a tie, it is checked against your mark sheets at admission. A wrong figure cancels your candidature.
2. See which seats your rank can get
Enter your rank and category in MDS options. It checks your rank against the official MCC MDS allotment results and 15 state counsellings. If you also have an INI-CET rank, the same page checks the dental seats at AIIMS, JIPMER and PGIMER separately. The free view shows three seats in full (your best government seat, your best state-quota seat at a private college where you have one, and one stretch seat) and the true number of seats in each group; a one-time ₹499 MDS purchase adds the full list.
You can also read the NEET-MDS closing ranks by branch for free.
3. Register for counselling: MCC and your state
There are two separate queues, run by different people.
- MCC (Medical Counselling Committee), at mcc.nic.in, fills the All India Quota (50% of seats in government dental colleges), all deemed university seats, the central university seats (DU, AMU, BHU) and the Armed Forces seats.
- Your state fills its state quota seats and the seats in private dental colleges. You register for it separately. NBEMS only passes your marks on; the state makes its own merit list and sets its own domicile, reservation and in-service rules. Check with the state that you are eligible.
- You register with MCC only online, and only once. A second registration gets you debarred.
- Use the mobile number and email you gave NBEMS. MCC fills them in, and OTPs go only there.
- You pay a registration fee, which never comes back, and a security deposit, which you can lose if you break a round rule. All India Quota: ₹1,000 and ₹25,000 for UR and EWS, ₹500 and ₹10,000 for SC, ST, OBC and PwD. Deemed universities: ₹5,000 and ₹2,00,000. Applying for both? Pay only the deemed amounts.
- Not registered yet? Round 3 registration ran from 3 to 7 October 2026. MCC allows fresh registration in the stray round (22 to 26 October 2026), with the fee.
4. Get your documents ready now
- PwD: get the Eligibility Certificate online from one of MCC’s Primary Medical Assessment Boards before choice filling starts. Without it, PwD seats are not shown to you.
- OBC-NCL and EWS: in the format in MCC’s bulletin. For OBC, your sub-caste must be on the Central list, and the income is for the financial year ending 31 March 2026.
- Internship: a completion certificate, or a certificate from your college head that you will finish by the cut-off date, 31 May 2026 (MCC’s bulletin). MCC’s user guide mentions 30 June 2026; check MCC’s latest notice before you register.
- BDS mark sheets for every professional exam, the degree or provisional certificate, and dental council registration.
The full list, with the form each paper must be in, is on the MDS documents checklist.
5. Know the dates
| Round (2026) | Registration | Result | Reporting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | 18 to 23 Aug | 26 Aug | 27 Aug to 1 Sep |
| Round 2 | 3 to 8 Sep | 11 Sep | 12 to 18 Sep |
| Round 3 | 3 to 7 Oct | 10 to 11 Oct | 12 to 19 Oct |
| Stray vacancy | 22 to 26 Oct | 29 Oct | 30 Oct to 5 Nov |
Round 3 and stray round dates are from MCC’s revised schedule of 30 September 2026. MCC does not contact candidates one by one, so check mcc.nic.in yourself, often.
6. Read the round rules before you lock anything
MCC runs four rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 (earlier called mop-up) and the stray vacancy round.
- Round 1 has a free exit. Leave a Round 1 seat and you keep your deposit.
- Freeze or Float. After a Round 1 or Round 2 seat, Freeze means you join it; Float means you upload documents and try for a better seat in the next round.
- From Round 2 on, not joining a seat, or resigning it, costs your security deposit.
- A joined Round 3 seat is final. No upgrade, no resigning, no later MCC round.
- Lock your list yourself before the deadline, or whatever is saved gets locked for you.
Full rules: how NEET-MDS counselling works and MDS free exit and security deposit.
7. Plan your choice list
The computer gives you the first seat on your list that is still free at your turn. So order matters most. Put dream seats first, moderate seats in the middle and safe seats last. MCC advises 30 to 40 choices, and only seats you would really join. See NEET-MDS choice filling and how to read a NEET-MDS closing rank.
Start with step 2 now. See what your NEET-MDS rank has actually closed at, by category and seat type, then plan every round from there.
