MCC seat in hand, state result coming: what now?

Rules from MCC’s NEET-PG 2025 bulletin and the MCC–state data exchange (upheld in Dr. J. Balaji vs Union of India, March 2025). Not legal advice; check the current bulletin.

MCC and your state run two separate counsellings on overlapping dates, and after each round they swap lists of who has joined where. Most of the real losses in a season happen in the gap between the two: an MCC seat resigned a day late, a state seat reported to while an MCC seat was still held, or a Round 3 seat joined without realising it closed every other door. Answer the four questions.

The rules behind the verdict

Round 1 has a free exit. An MCC Round 1 seat can be left, or resigned before Round 2, with the security deposit refunded.
From Round 2 on, leaving costs the deposit. A Round 2 seat not joined, or resigned, forfeits it.
A joined Round 3 seat is final. No upgrade, no resignation, and MCC removes you from your state’s Round 3. Not joining a Round 3 allotment forfeits the deposit and ends your MCC season.
The exchange runs both ways. Join a state Round 3 seat and you are out of MCC’s stray round.
Resignation only counts through MCC’s portal, inside its window. Telling the college is not enough; the states read MCC’s list.
